Why We Do This: Faith, Horses, and Healing

A letter from our founder and EAL Coordinator, Donna Horton, on what drives Faith Reins and why South Arkansas families deserve this kind of care close to home.

When I started Faith Reins, the question I heard most often was: why here? Why Camden? Why horses?

The answer has never changed. The children who need this kind of care are already here. They are in our schools, our churches, and our neighborhoods. They deserve access to excellent, compassionate therapy without driving two hours each way.

Horses have a way of cutting through the noise. They are present in a way that is hard to describe until you've seen a child who barely speaks find their voice while brushing a horse's flank. The clinical literature supports it, but the real evidence is in the barn on a Tuesday afternoon.

Faith is the other part of this. It shapes how we treat every family — with dignity, with hope, and with the belief that every child has something to grow into. We do not require any particular faith from the families we serve. We simply bring ours to the work.

We are still a young organization, and there is much ahead of us. More staff to hire, more horses to care for, more children to serve. Your support — in prayer, in giving, in sending a family our way — makes every part of this possible.

Thank you for being part of this.
